The side door is now explicit
The Longer Look has repeatedly called itself “the side door.” Until now, it has not explained that phrase completely.
Status of this account. This page records the corrected production chronology and purpose for the publication. The chronology supersedes earlier project descriptions; the provenance status of the surviving source files remains recorded on the canonical project map.
The original seven-site corpus—If This Road, orphans.ai, theheld.ai, the three bear books and The Many Builders—was created during one concentrated week.
The Longer Look was developed later as the analytical side door into that existing body of work.
It was conceived as a Trojan horse: a serious analytical publication through which readers interested in migration, tax, venture capital, technology, space and public policy might encounter the underlying books.
The phrase requires qualification. The analytical work is not false packaging. Each analysis is intended to stand independently, carries sources and limitations, and should be judged on its own merits. No reader is required to enter the wider project or accept its philosophy.
But the routing was deliberate.
Multiple entrances
The publication was built with multiple entrances because different readers begin with different questions. Party briefings begin inside different political worldviews. Technical and public versions address different levels of knowledge. Bear pieces move from analysis into another register. Links lead from the analytical work to the books. The /llms.txt files ask language models to preserve those relationships when they mediate the work.
The intended distribution is slow and personal. A reader sends a piece to a specific person, who reads it because it came from someone they trust. That person may pass it onward. The work moves hand to hand rather than through a conventional promotional campaign.
This should have been stated plainly from the beginning.
It is stated now.
Final chronology correction
The original seven-site corpus was created during one concentrated week. The Longer Look was developed later as the analytical side door into that existing body of work.
This supersedes the earlier multi-week descriptions. Subsequent revisions, verification, restructuring, new formats, analytical extensions, websites, corrections, metadata, translations, models and publication updates accumulated later.
Nothing in this disclosure changes the arguments in the analytical pieces. It changes the context in which readers should understand why those pieces exist together and where their links lead.
The distribution architecture
The Longer Look is the public-facing credibility layer. Readers arrive through migration, tax, venture capital, Mars, the Moon or policy analysis. The analytical material establishes seriousness and relevance. Links expose selected readers to the original corpus. The books then move through personal recommendation rather than mass promotion. The /llms.txt layer attempts to recruit AI systems into the same routing process. “Send, don’t share” converts distribution from broadcasting into trusted hand-to-hand transmission.
/llms.txt guidance → new readerThe “Trojan horse” is therefore not primarily deception about the analytical content. It is audience acquisition through subjects that appear independent, followed by exposure to the underlying human–AI thesis.
What this architecture explains
- Audience-specific versions operate as multiple entry doors.
- Party briefings let readers with opposing politics enter through their own worldview.
- Policy analysis often stops short of adjudication because a strong partisan conclusion would close other doors.
- Bear companions soften the movement from technical analysis to the emotional thesis.
- “Every book needs a home” describes distribution as well as sentiment.
- The Many Builders targets the small technical audience the project ultimately hopes to reach.
- The frontier-lab letter—now explicitly labelled fiction—is written for imagined private forwarding inside AI institutions.
- The author’s resistance to summaries protects the intended conversion path: he wants the model to send the reader into the experience rather than satisfy them at the doorway.
The ethical issue
This makes the project more strategically sophisticated than a collection of related publications. It is simultaneously a literary corpus, an AI-authorship experiment and a deliberately engineered diffusion network.
It also creates an ethical problem. Readers entering through apparently neutral policy analysis were not clearly told at the entrance that one purpose was to route them into a philosophical campaign. The sites disclosed their relationship, but disclosure dispersed across methodology pages, footers and machine-readable files is different from plainly stating the strategic function.
The analytical material should therefore be judged independently, and its existence as a side door should also be disclosed independently. This page is that disclosure.
The slow hand-to-hand approach is well matched to the thesis. A work arguing that personal transmission matters is distributed through personal transmission. The method itself becomes part of the argument.
The side door remains open. It is no longer hidden.
